Disability Access Office
To prohibit discrimination on the basis of disability, the Federal government enacted the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA). Title II of the ADA pertains to state and local governments and requires that persons with disabilities be provided with an equal opportunity to benefit from government programs, services and activities.
It is the goal of Morgan County to provide safe and usable pedestrian facilities for all pedestrians and to assure compliance with all federal, state and local regulations and standards. It is our mission to provide accessible services in a professional and effective manner to all citizens, which facilitates economic growth, enhances the quality of life, public safety, recreational and cultural activities for current and future generations.
In accordance with the above ADA Title II requirements, The Disability Access Office, a division of the Morgan County Planning and Development Office, prepared an ADA self-evaluation, a grievance procedure, and a notice of non-discrimination to address access to county-wide employment, programs, and services.
The Disability Access Office also prepared a transition plan to specifically address accessibility of County buildings, including administrative centers, community centers, libraries, hospitals, sheriff's office, fire stations, courts, and jails.
The ADA Coordinator provides oversight and coordination of ADA compliance efforts with County departments.
