Keep Morgan Beautiful accomplishments in 2009

  • Jan 2009 - Co-Hosted Morgan County’s “Bring One for the Chipper” event at Solid Waste Transfer Station and in Rutledge. Handed out seedlings and recycling information.

  • Held monthly meetings - tracked solid waste numbers. Last Fiscal year showed an increase in Loads of Recycling of 12%, or 288.11 tons. Morgan County was the highest recycler at the Athens Recycling Center last year among the counties that use that facility.

  • Members encouraged recycling, discouraged litter, and encouraged community beautification using their personal phones, vehicles and volunteer time to create awareness of their mission. A conservative estimate of 400 hours were donated to their efforts in 2009.

  • Produced informational handouts to public on recycling, composting and caring plants in drought/water conservation.

  • April - May 2009 - Keep Morgan Beautiful worked with community to host ten Great American Clean Up events to bring awareness to recycling, reduction of solid waste, litter abatement and community beautification. Held first ever community shredding event.

  • April 2009:

    • "Recycleman" debuts at Madisonfest, engaged the public as a recycling teaching tool by KMB members. Gave out information and litter bags to public.
