The Morgan County Planning and Development department is responsible for interpreting, administering and enforcing codes and regulations in regard to zoning and land use. This includes the Morgan County Zoning Ordinance, Morgan County Development Regulations, and certain provisions of the Morgan County Code of Ordinances. In addition to local codes and ordinances, the Planning and Development staff monitors and enforces compliance with state and federal regulations regarding building codes and environmental protection acts. Planning and Development staff has administrative responsibilities to the Morgan County Planning Commission, the Morgan County Resource Preservation Advisory Board, the Morgan County Board of Commissioners, and the various City and Town Councils in the community. The Planning and Development department also facilitates implementation of projects identified in the Comprehensive Plan related to long range community plans for Morgan County and its municipalities. Working collaboratively with elected officials and administrative staff of various municipal and county agencies to prioritize and execute long-range projects related to economic development, housing development, land use patterns, stewardship of natural and cultural resources and planning for community facilities.
Building inspectors are available to address issues related to Building permits and Building Inspections. Code Enforcement Officers are available to address issues related to soil and erosion control, illegal truck routes, illegal dumping, and constructing ponds or lakes on private property. Planners are available to address issues regarding Zoning, historic preservation, Occupational Tax Licenses, flood plain regulations, development plan review and future land use patterns. Morgan County shares responsibilities for many of these functions in the cities and towns of the community as well as unincorporated areas.
